The Hogia group
Hogia AB, the parent company of the Hogia Group, was founded in 1980 by Bert-Inge Hogsved and his family. The Hogia Group is today one of Sweden's largest software companies encompassing around 20 subsidiaries with a total of 580 employees in Sweden, Finland, Norway and the United Kingdom and a customer base of about 75,000 public and private organisations in Europe, North America and Africa.
The Hogia Group’s entire development and operation has always been and is completely self-financed. No external capital has ever been introduced (apart from the family´s original 5,000 SEK), and no shares in the company have ever changed owner. The owners have no intention of selling the company, listing it on the stock exchange or taking in external capital in the future.
The company has a very healthy balance sheet and no loans. The Hogia Group experienced its 24th consecutive year of profit in 2015 and Hogia AB is rated AAA by Soliditet (Dun & Bradstreet’s Nordic partner). The Hogia Group’s annual turnover currently stands at € 58 million increasing at a rate of 5 - 10 % every year.
Very early Hogia defined its mission in a wording which has remained unchanged over a quarter of a century. This mission statement, which focuses on availability and customer support (which were not very typical focus areas in 1980 !) reads, in its direct translation from Swedish:
To be available now and long term into the future, to make it possible for a large number of companies and other organizations to handle their administration in a simple and efficient way.
Hogia´s mission statement is of course in line with what the company does but also with the way it is owned. Most of what Hogia does is based on standardized software which usually takes years to develop, has a long life span (often 15 to 20 years) and requires a large customer base during many years to lead to successful projects. Decisions made often mean very long-term commitments with very long-term consequences. Having remained family-owned and thus independent from the financial markets, Hogia can be that long-term in its decision-making. Not being forced to optimize quarterly report figures or to maximize profits for financial exits, Hogia can work long-term in a way that many companies cannot.
In 1987 Hogia AB was appointed and has since been Purveyor to His Majesty the King of Sweden.
